CHOOSING A DESIGNER
Choosing a designer sounds like it should be simple, right? I mean we start playing with blocks when we are babies, what should be so hard about a kitchen; it’s just blocks, isn’t it just finding ones that fit? Do I really even need a designer? The answers are: no, yes, sort of, and definitely!
Lots of things sound simple that really aren’t, kitchen design is one of them, it isn’t rocket science either, but it does take a working knowledge of construction, some basic space planning principles, and if you want your remodeled kitchen to look nice as well as function, some style and imagination don’t hurt either. So with that in mind you are going to be looking for someone a little bit left brained, and a little bit right brained, or as is commonly known, well rounded. Now imagine that when you use the services of an expert designer, you basically are asking someone to take your kitchen remodeling project and write the recipe for it in a secret code. There really are so many details and little parts, the one who plans it, is truly the one person who can decode it at installation time.
There are many places in New Jersey, where you can buy cabinets, but they don’t offer the complete service Empire Contracting Group does, settling for less can leave you with big holes in your process.
Buying your Cabinets at:
o Home Centers—designers often lack proper training, high employee turn-over rate, limited installation services
o Lumber Yards—don’t install cabinets, don’t specialize in design but generally will put a design together.
o Contractor— installs cabinets, but doesn’t design, relies on Home Center and Lumber Yard designers, you don’t know what you will get
o Independent Designers—consult only, don’t install, must hold proper insurances and licenses and hopefully will be someone your installer, when you find them, will work well with.
o Buying Clubs/Internet—you are the designer
As you can see, using any one of these places to buy your cabinets, there is a real disconnect between your providers, and you become responsible when something goes wrong. You stand to become anything from the Designer to the General Contractor, or anything in between. Once you start to outsource from a complete service provider, it is your kitchen project, your responsibility. At Empire Contracting Group, in Union, New Jersey, you never see a client waiting on a checkout line to return cabinets.

Let me ask you a question…
…if you spent three hours designing the perfect kitchen, had everything you needed on paper, would you walk in to a home center and hand it to a sales associate there to hold onto for the next two months? Tell them you will be back to get the list in eight weeks? “I’ll be back after I find a guy who can knock down the wall in my dining room and install all the parts on the list.” Then walk out with nothing? Then why would you even consider going to a home center for a kitchen?
What are the chances that associate will even still work there when it’s time for your kitchen to be installed? Who figures out the formula then?
